Ammoudi Bay is situated among red volcanic rocks, just below the picturesque village of Oia. There, the transformation of an old concrete water tank into a bar for the passengers travelling to Thirasia was executed by alphadelta constructions.
The old water tank, can be found on the side of the bay. It is excavated in the rock and originally constructed by reinforced concrete. Openings were created on the facades of the building, while inside it an additional steel construction formed a second level. Masonry and stonework were made as well as layering and painting works were carried out, along with reinforcement and restoration interventions on the frame of the tank, resulting in a strikingly elegant building
Maintaining the traditional architecture of Santorini as well as keeping some existing stone elements on the facade of the structure, alphadelta constructions succeeded in transforming an unused and non- functional space into a tourist reception area, without disturbing the uniformity of the buildings on Ammoudi Bay.
